I’m Emily Swan, a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 10 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families. My experience spans private practice, community mental health, early childhood mental health, family support, crisis services, and clinical supervision. I earned my Master's of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Emporia State University in 2015 and have been licensed as a professional counselor in Colorado since 2018.
Throughout my career, I have worked with clients navigating anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship and family concerns, life transitions, and other challenges that can affect emotional well-being. I have particular experience working with children and families, including providing parent consultation and collaborating with schools, medical providers, and community supports. Right now I'm only offering telehealth appointments, which is limited in effectiveness when working with children and adolescents. I still work with parents and caregivers, but have paused working directly with children due to them benefitting most from in-person sessions.
My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed and individualized to each person’s needs, strengths, and goals. My primary approaches are Internal Family Systems and Somatic Experiencing. IFS helps to identify and understand the different “parts” of yourself that have developed in response to stress, relationships, and life experiences, creating greater self-awareness, compassion, and healing. Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between the mind and body. By bringing awareness to physical sensations and nervous system responses, somatic work can help you better understand how stress and past experiences show up in your body and develop greater regulation and connection to yourself.
I also integrate Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) when helpful to explore patterns, shift unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, strengthen coping skills, and support meaningful change.
Before venturing out on my own, I worked in a variety of behavioral health settings in Colorado and Kansas. These experiences have shaped my belief that meaningful therapy is not one-size-fits-all. I strive to provide a space where clients can better understand themselves, develop practical tools, strengthen relationships, and work toward changes that feel meaningful to them.
My professional and personal mission is to help others understand themselves more in order to make changes that impact the present and future for the better.
